Writing Ideas at Any Time, Any Place
This morning I helped gals from our small church take down Christmas decorations and do overall cleaning. While mopping the bathrooms, I thought through some writing ideas. Then a memory of long ago came to mind.
Back in the early 1970s, while hubby Stephen attended Fuller Seminary in Pasadena, we served as youth workers in a northeast Los Angeles church. We also helped with part-time church facility housekeeping. They provided our housing.
Creative Chores
One day when I dusted an upstairs library room, I felt the strangest sensation. I was drawn to one of the books, an autobiography, The Story of My Life by Aimee Semple McPherson. Perhaps because I was in a Foursquare Church (her denomination) not far from Angelus Temple, the church she founded? I began to read her story right then. This controversial, daring woman of faith fascinated me.
Aimee and Reba
Now, decades later, I thought of her again and pondered more writing ideas. One of the characters I was writing about in my present WIP (work in progress)** caught my focus. My protagonist … she’s like Aimee. I didn’t realize it until this moment. Her daring. Her charisma. Her faith.
Writing ideas can pop up in the strangest ways. While in the shower. When gardening. As you drive down the road. For me, it happens most on a walk. That’s why it’s so important to have a notebook and pen or pencil handy at all times. It’s the most typical, important habit for want-to-be and established writers.

Question For You
I’m working on an epistolary novel set in the 1800s. Have you ever read an epistolary novel? If so, which one was your favorite? I’d really like to know. Might help me with some more writing ideas. Send me a note at janet(at)blybooks(dot)com.
