CAN Scavenger Hunt author Miralee Ferrell

Author Miralee Ferrell

CAN Scavenger Hunt participants! I’m pleased to introduce author Miralee Ferrell at this Stop #23. Here’s an interview with Miralee Ferrell by Janet Chester Bly …

Janet Bly: Miralee, tell us about where you live.

Miralee Ferrell: My husband and I live a few miles outside of a small town in the Columbia Gorge in WA State. We’re country people and love it!

Janet Bly: What author(s) inspired you to get into writing?

Miralee Ferrell: Honestly, no author inspired me to write—that happened because a pastor was praying with me and felt a nudge from the Lord that I was to start writing. I prayed about it, felt it was confirmed, and I began writing shortly after. That was 11 years ago. But the author who has most influenced my historical writing (when I write a true western, which I love to write) is Zane Grey. I have every one of his Westerns, many in first edition. Love his work. Since then, I’ve published a total of 19 books, with one more releasing this year.

Janet Bly: How would you describe the main genre and theme of your books?

Miralee Ferrell: I’m kind of all over the map. I started with two women’s fiction novels/contemporary, that had a strong family and personal restoration theme (which is woven through many of my books, regardless of the genre). Then I branched out into historical romance, as well as contemporary romance. I just finished writing my 5th book in my Horses and Friends series for middle grade kids, ages 8-13. But each book deals with the personal growth of the characters and strong values, as well as action and adventure.

Janet Bly: What’s your personal experience with horses?

Miralee Ferrell: I’ve been a horse lover all my life, but I didn’t own my first horse until a year after I married. I’ve owned at least one or more since, until I had to put my last Arabian mare down three years ago, due to age issues. I still ride on a regular basis with my daughter, who lives nearby. We have amazing wooded trails we ride that take off from our property.

Janet Bly: I see you have a series of middle-grade girls’ horse novels. Tell us something about them.

Miralee Ferrell: I LOVE this series! It starts out with three friends, and they gain two more before the series is over. Two boys and three girls. All of the kids love to solve a mystery when they stumble across it, although the mystery isn’t always the main theme. Each book has life lessons appropriate to that age woven in, as well as adventure, spiritual themes, and of course, lots of horses!

Janet Bly: What do you do when you’re not writing?

Miralee Ferrell: At one time I would have said reading, riding with my daughter, working in my garden, and taking walks. I can still say the same, but in MUCH smaller amounts than before, since I started my own publishing company 2 ½ years ago. A lot of my free time is now taken up with acquiring new fiction, doing copy edits, proofreading, and giving input on cover design. I love it all, but it does take a huge bite out of my free time.

Janet Bly: Tell us about one of your favorite research locations.

Miralee Ferrell: Definitely Tombstone, Arizona, for my book Finding Love in Tombstone, a true Western set in the 1880s. My husband and I visited there for four days and visited every historical location we could find, as well as taking the stagecoach ride through town and visiting the old cemetery, Boot Hill. It was all so fascinating to someone like me who loves history so much. Bits and pieces of Tombstone’s history is woven into that book.

Janet Bly: What are some of your recent book releases?

Miralee Ferrell: Three different novella collections this year, as well as one book in my Horses and Friends series coming in Oct. (book 5), Rebel Horse Rescue. The novella collections include two historical and one contemporary—Heart of a Cowboy, The Cowboy’s Bride, and In Love and War.

In Outlaw Angel, Angel Ramirez has been on the run from a dangerous outlaw for years disguised as a boy. She has worked as a varmint tracker and horse wrangler. Janet Bly: Thank you so much, Miralee. Do you have any final thoughts to share with us?

Miralee Ferrell: Authors LOVE reviews—it helps us so much. If any of you read a book by any of the authors in this blog hop, we’d very much appreciate if you’d take the time to post a review on Amazon, Goodreads, B&N, CBD, or anywhere else—and of course, Please tell your friends that you enjoyed it. Endorsements for author Miralee Ferrell books …

“. . . a story that will entertain and edify. Christian fiction at its best.” Kim Vogel Sawyer, best-selling, award-winning author

“Miralee Ferrell writes with a Western flair and enough page-turning suspense to keep readers on the edge of their seats. Her historical detail is fabulous. I felt like I was right there in Sundance, Wyoming, with Angel, Travis and Libby.” Andrea Boeshaar, best-selling author

“Miralee Ferrell writes intense, well-thought out plots, with beautiful descriptions, characterizations, and the perfect amount of tension.” Sharlene MacLaren, best-selling author

(Blowing on Dandelions) “A deeply inspiring story about family conflicts and the transforming power of rekindled love.” Walt Larimore, best-selling author

“Blowing on Dandelions is an amazing, deeply emotional story. Each of the characters is so sympathetic and well-drawn that it was impossible to put the book down. Ferrell is a wonderful writer who handles the pain of physical and emotional trauma beautifully. Her characters are appealing, with a touching and believable faith journey, and the romance is lovely.” Roxanne Rustand, author of Duty to Protect

“Miralee Ferrell’s writing style is always a delight, even as her stories are captivating. Blowing on Dandelions is no exception. From the opening scene the reader is drawn into Katherine Galloway’s life … more than a heart-tugging romance—though it is that—but it is also a mind-challenging read …” Kathi Macias, multi-award-winning author of 40 books

Thank you so much, Miralee. And thank you, readers and CAN Scavenger Hunters for stopping by my blog.
