Novel Interview by Connie Sue Larson* for Trails of Reba Cahill Series
Connie Sue: When you began this Trails of Reba Cahill series, did you have any idea how Reba’s story would begin and end? Along that same line, when you thought of Reba’s name many years ago, did you have any idea what her life story would be?
Janet Chester Bly: Only in a vague sense. And you need to know, I’ve been working on Reba Cahill’s story since 1991. Over the years, other book projects intervened, mainly hubby Steve’s projects or our co-authored stories and nonfiction. I’d jot down Reba Cahill scenes now and then, in several different settings, from California to Chicago and even briefly in Dundee, Scotland (after a trip Steve and I took there). And she had several different names and occupations … including counselor, talk show hostess, and professor. When the time finally arrived for me to write the final draft, her name was Reba Cahill, or Reba Mae to close friends. She was a redheaded cowgirl who helped her Grandma Pearl run a ranch in a town much like my own, up on the mountain top Camas Prairie of north-central Idaho.
More Novels?
Connie Sue: Will there be a possibility for more than just three books in this series?
Janet Chester Bly: Oh sure, there is always a possibility, but for the present, I’m determined to aim for and complete three projected books in the series: Wind in the Wires, Down Squash Blossom Road, and Beneath a Camperdown Elm. The idea has popped in my mind that perhaps I will do short stories featuring some of the other main characters. Maybe I’ll even create a novella or two. Will see what the future holds for me and for the characters of the Trails of Reba Cahill series.
