A Nickel Plated Style
My wife, Janet, enjoys wearing western-style clothing. Oh, not the common, ordinary jeans, boots, and blouse. Rather she prefers what I call nickel-plated, western chic. Her sterling silver, feather, and turquoise earrings, for instance, harmonize with the rings on her fingers and necklaces. And they have to blend with the sequined blouse and matching skirt. Then the boots must be a complementary color and classy style. She even coordinates the boot bracelet.
The Nickel-Plated Missus
Over the years Janet gathered quite a collection of western bling in blouses and shirts, dresses and skirts, bandannas and scarves, as well as boots, belts, and jewelry. Dressing western certainly fit our lifestyle. And classy western fits Janet’s personality as well.
Once I stood at the grange hall waiting for a community meeting to commence, visiting with Big Fist Bob. He looked up as Janet entered the room and exclaimed, “Here comes your missus, nickel plated from head to toe.”
What It Means
You know, that’s a very high compliment. Old time cowboys called something nickel plated for the best and fanciest of anything. You could have nickel plated saddles, homes or women. Well, Big Fist Bob called it correct about one thing—Janet is a nickel-plated wife.
But her worth rates more than what she wears. It’s in her relationships, her love for the Lord, her commitment to our children, and her faithfulness and loyalty to me.
A Glorious Heaven
I believe heaven will be nickel plated. Oh, sure, the Bible tells us the walls will be made of jasper in a city of pure gold, as clear as glass. And on and on it goes about the choicest of building materials (see Revelation 21:19-21). I’m sure it will be a wondrous sight. But that’s not why I call heaven nickel plated.
You see, it’s real beauty will be in the relationships there. The Lord Jesus will be at home, you know. And He’ll not only be on the throne, but welcoming each one of us. And the only ones to people that place will be those who give Him the honor, praise, and worship He deserves.
What makes heaven of great value centers on the purity of relationships with Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and a multitude of blood-bought children, without spot or wrinkle, not the jewels and nickel plating.
