Excerpt from Hawks Don’t Say Goodbye:
Nathan Riggins spent the rest of the afternoon at the bank next to the safe. About 4:00 p.m., Leah brought him a loaf of fresh-baked bread, slices of roast beef, and a bowl of boiled turnips and cabbage. He wolfed it all down.
He was reading a book to Colin entitled Stuart Brannon and the Argentine Outlaws by Hawthorne H. Miller when Brady Wheeler walked in. He announced it was time to load up.
“Did you tell my mother what’s going on?” Nathan asked Leah.
“Yeah, she sent your coat, your canteen, and your carbine. She said to be careful and tell ya she was prayin’ for you and Colin.”
Praying? Lord, how come I haven’t been praying? Please keep Colin alive. You’ve got to help him!
