What To Tell Your Kids and Grandkids About Heaven **
Our kids know our views on politics and sports, on movie stars and music. We express our opinion on most anything, whether they ask us or not. So, why would we hesitate to tell them about something as important as heaven?
We don’t know everything about that place, only glimpses here and there. A bad day in heaven is better than the best day on earth. Witnesses like Isaiah and Paul and John visited heavenly scenes and returned to tell about it.
Heaven is totally different than here, much better and more magnificent. Beyond the reach of evil and the evil one, we’re sinless. No more frailty, sickness and death. Shame and dishonor can’t happen. Temptation is gone. We escape the bonds of pain and sorrow. No limits to time and space.
We will be better people there and quite active. For instance, some will be in charge of cities, depending on how we faithfully handled responsibility here. We will also have super powers that transcend present human limitations.
We will be like Jesus.
He is the prototype. However, we’ll still have our own names. Others can identify us.
These bodies of ours aren’t the final model. We live in temporary housing. Yet in heaven, we’ll be made of flesh and bone, be able to eat, to enjoy food. Meanwhile, in this world we work to get our spirits more aligned to Him, get things right inside our hearts and minds, a lifetime project.
Heaven is Jesus’ home. And it will feel like home to us. He is preparing special-design places for each individual person. I’m hoping for a hacienda type home with a barn and corrals and horses and some trails to ride.
And, hey, I really like this one: we’ll all be able to sing!
It’s good to continue to tell our children about the old days, about who we were. We must be honest with them about how we’re doing now and about who we are. And we should also tell them about the future, about heaven, and who we will be. Because of what Jesus did, we are all children of the resurrection.
Never able to die again, we’ll live in heaven forever.
