HELPS ON THE FAMILY LIFE TRAIL
We all need trail tips now and then. Being a parent is more than rushing around in a frenzy of work. Or earning the money. Good dads take time to know themselves, their wives, and especially their children.
We want to be good dads, but sometimes we run out of ideas. We’re tapped out. Western author Stephen Bly suggests these things to try. Here’s a sampling from his book, How To Be A Good Dad.
In the Old West, settlers marked the boundaries of their property with corner posts. First, stake out your family’s claim. Build quality for each individual family member. Let them know family comes first for you. Then show how you look to God, your higher authority. Model your trust in Him in every challenge.
Trail Tips
Do something crazy, like wear a cowboy hat. Get practical and build something needed right now, like a phone book holder. Be prepared to be vulnerable, like sing a solo. And treat the family like the preacher’s there.
More Trail Tips
Keep the office door open. If needed, be a zoo keeper. Volunteer for the Christmas play. Leave the house door open and the porch light on. And most of all, hug Mom.

Awakening Your Sense of Wonder / Finding God in the Ordinary book by Janet Chester Bly SENSE OF WONDER Book
Amen! What an incredible message! Susie and I alternated between laughter and tears as we listened to the truths Stephen shared. He was on target with all ten points. I wish every dad could listen to this podcast. Our kids are grown, but we can apply some of the principles he covered as we interact with our grandchildren. Thank you, Janet and Stephen.
Greetings, Mark: Your comments so encouraging! Thanks for taking the time to share! Blessings to you and Susie, Janet
I am thrilled to receive these wonderful devotions from Stephen. He takes Bible truth and relates it to ordinary life in ways we all can understand. Thank you for making this happen. I am eager for the next one to come in my email!
I rate both of the first two devotions A+++!
Eleanor: So very glad you’ve enjoyed the devotions and podcasts by Stephen! I’m very grateful we were able to work it out to do this Legacy Series in his memory … Blessings, Janet
